''Getting Ready for your Mentor'', by Juliette McDonald is used as an introduction piece for students in terms of the do's and don'ts for an internship opportunity. The essay is introduced as though the student is initially meeting their mentor, and then speaks as though the student has already completed their position. In addition to this, the passage also addresses the do's and don'ts in one's position in order to appear professional, maximize their efforts, and be effective in the workplace. In the conclusion, McDonald speaks on the finishing of the internship, and how to apply the experience into a positive application for the future. This is spoken on in terms of credit for your recognition, and how to leave the internship with new contacts and information on a positive note. The main reason for the essay is to give demonstrate the best possible way to maximize one's internship so that it is able to benefit the student as well as the mentor's work in a positive and effective way. For the student, this is experience and real world application in a desired field, while the mentor is able to provide information for an energetic, hardworking, and educated student at their side that is willing to be of assistance.
