Elete Physiques Week #4 Assignment 5: Communication

Communication among a variety of people varies when in a specific environment. The people one speaks with, as well as the environment in which they are speaking in indicates the level of formality one should conduct their way of speech. Each situation is different due to the fact that some specific conditions require a formal presentation, where others do not require the same level of polished speech. For example, when conducting a job interview, one must exhibit a sophisticated individual, demonstrating that them as a brand is a possible candidate for the position. However, when that same individual is going out to eat with a friend, there is not a need or requirement for that same level of sophisticated speech due to there not being a need to build a professional brand in yourself. There is a desire to come across as a polished speaking individual in a work environment in order to promote a good image for not just yourself, but the brand as well. In terms of the expectations of the individual being interviewed, the level of professional communication is very important due to the desire to put the best foot forward. In order to do this, the one being interviewed must listen, be interactive and speak in formal fashion, in addition to being prepared and ready to answer any questions that the interviewer decides to throw at them. Also, sophisticated attire is required, to have an image that says that you are taking this potential position serious. For the interviewer, being a good communicator is being able to be keep the individual being interviewed on their toes and being able to truly distinguish if they are qualified and possible for the position. This is important because being able to create an atmosphere that can resemble a work environment gives a good representation of how the individual would work in the specific position.

When beginning my internship opportunity, I would focus on being able to communicate in an effective way. To do this, I will keep in mind that when speaking to a respected leader, that I speak in a professional tone to gain respect. When doing so, I am able to establish credibility that my mentor will appreciate. In addition to this, being able to keep eye contact with my mentor will make him understand that I am applying my undivided attention to him and his instructions. This action will make him understand that there is a sense of reliance due to my ability to understand and process the job or responsibility at hand. The last point that I will emphasize on when speaking to my mentor is the ability to provide a positive energy when communicating in order to demonstrate that I will be a positive influence in the workplace.
